Starting back in 1975 a group of men in Abilene, Texas had a vision to use shortwave technology to broadcast the gospel around the world. Their first attempt came in 1977 to set up a sit in the Caribbean, but it turned fatal. In 1980 preliminary engineering began on a site in Anchor Point, Alaska amd on July 23, 1983 KNLS ("the new life station") signed on for the first time. Covering Russia, China, and the Pacific Rim. In addition to the station in Alaska, a new site in the Indian Ocean is being developed into a facility that will broadcast, via four antennae, throughout Europe and Western Asia, the Middle East (in the Arabic language), Africa, India, and even across the Atlantic to South America.

World Christian Broadcasting exists so that people in places best served by broadcast media become aware of the good news of Jesus Christ and want to know more. Under the direction of a board of directors and President Charles Caudill they have been successful in broadcasting the word of God all over the world. They are a non-profit organization supported by concerned Christians whose purpose is to take God's word to people who may have no other means of hearing the good news. The Portland Church of Christ has supported this work for several years and is very proud of the work they have accomplished and the vision they have for the future.
