Too Busy For God? PDF Print E-mail

We (my family) are involved in the final stages of a very long and tiresome baseball season.  With three kids playing on three different teams, it seems that we have spent more time at the ballpark lately than we have spent at home.  All the late nights and fast food meals have played havoc with our schedule and routines.  I know that many of you can empathize, having been there yourselves.  Through this experience, I have been reminded of how easy it can be for us to get caught up in our lives and lose our focus on what is really important.  In all the hustle and bustle of life, we all run the risk of becoming too busy for God.  While none of us would say that baseball or work or whatever you have going on is more important than God, sometimes those things do seem to be more pressing and needful of our time and attention than does our relationship with God.  And so we work hard to maintain our schedules and fit all the things that are “important” into our lives and try to find time for God when we can.

We need to be reminded from time to time that there is nothing in this life that is more important or needful than God and our relationship with Him.  While there is certainly nothing wrong with playing baseball or working or being involved in other activities, we must never allow those things to take the place of God in our lives.  We must keep first things first.  One of the great dangers of neglecting God in pursuit of other things is that we may never find our way back to Him.  A great many people have “put God on the back burner” for a little while to be involved in some worldly pursuit and have never found the time or desire to come back.  Our home in heaven is too important to let slip away because of some temporary activity of this life.

The summertime is often a very busy time with weekend getaways, vacations, and so many other activities.  As you enjoy your summer, make sure that God remains the most important thing in your life.  Be faithful in your worship and active and involved in the church.  We’ll see you here.

I hope you have a wonderful day!
